Nataraj Mandir
Our beautiful Surya studio is also a consecrated Shiva Nataraj Mandir (non-Agaamic temple), activated during a day-long ritual in August of 2005. During this ceremony, the Nataraj form of the deity Shiva was invoked and invited into the icon. Shiva, the progenitor of Hatha Yoga, in his Nataraj form depicts the Universal Dance of Creation and the wonder of stillness in action. Nataraj is housed in a custom-built, Balinese temple platform.
Daily puja (devotional offering) is performed at sunrise to Nataraj, by members of our community who have been trained in this ritual practice. Public pujas in the mid-afternoon occur from time to time. You can find our complete public Ritual schedule here.
You may make your own offerings of flowers or sweets, as well as monetary donations to help maintain the mandir with incense, oil for the lamps, and the numerous offerings of puspam (flowers), prasad (fruits and sweets), incense, silks for decoration, etc.
Next time you visit the studio, please share in some prasad – food that has been offered as part of our daily rituals – which you can usually find at the front desk.
