Why Yoga? It’s Fun and fulfilling! Yoga soothes emotions, enhances focus, builds strength and self-esteem. It’s low-impact, non-competitive, and non-violent. Yoga helps regulate raging hormones, align bones, and massage internal organs. Unlike many sports, Yoga may be practiced throughout one’s life. Classes are appropriate for ages 5-9.

What do children wear to class? FAQ Top

More About Tests, Rankings, and Uniforms… FAQ Top
Uniforms create a sense of purpose and camaraderie with other students. Tests and rankings give a sense of momentum and accomplishment, clear boundaries, and goals. Structure serves as a foundation for creative play. Beginners and young children are NOT judged on skill or ‘perfect’ alignment, only a basic understanding of each lesson. Tests for all ages are voluntary. Graduates are no longer ranked and are no longer required to wear uniforms.
How Long Does It Take to Graduate? FAQ Top
The program is designed to allow students to proceed at their own pace. An average student may take seven years to complete the program, but exceptional student may finish in half that time. Students are at least four and usually five years old before joining us.
May I practice with my children at home? FAQ Top
Yes please! Have fun, keep it playful, and don’t worry if the posture isn’t “perfect”. If you are not a trained Yoga teacher, please do not adjust your kids while they are in a posture!
May adults participate in class? FAQ Top
Parents and guardians are welcome to sit in the room quietly and watch. We ask parents not to correct or adjust the students!
Religious Affiliation? FAQ Top
Yoga is not a religion! This style of Yoga is based on a Shaivite (Hindu) tradition, however. Eastern religious symbols are part of the classroom environment and used to teach fundamental lessons about personal conduct.

Yoga Mandala Youth Program Director Top
Charles Ekabhumi Ellik is a graduate of Yoga Mandala’s Teacher Training Program. After a 9-month internship with David Moreno and studying Ashtanga, Iyengar, Kundalini, Anusara, Bikram, and Shadow styles, he went on to teach Hatha Yoga full-time and to develop Yoga Mandala’s popular Youth Yoga Program. An award-winning poet, teacher/coach, and community organizer, he brings to his practice and classes a rich background in creative and physical arts: poetry performance, public speaking, publishing, painting, music, martial arts, and modern dance. He also has extensive experience in outdoor sports such as backpacking, surfing, sailing, snowboarding, skateboarding, and cycling. In Yoga, he found a practice that combines elements of all these activities. He has been coaching performances and teaching poetry at schools and workshops for over a decade.
